Well I am off to a great beginning for the day. First thing this morning I checked my email and found a transaction from Paypal that did not register in my brain. I went to pay pal and there was this awesome $200.00 purchase that I did not make.

I am not sure if my password was breached or if there was a glitch on pay pals behalf but… I filed a resolution and believe that this will be sorted out and I will be credited with the amount. The problem did bring to mind a very important item that I became negligent about.

Change your Password every month! I had not done this for the past few months and that over site could have been very expensive. Create complicated passwords, do not store them in the password manager and change your password every month or so.

In the long run, you will be thankful you did.

I wanted to make Marketing Hobo search engine optimized or SEO friendly, now for an area that I know a little about without having to put on the learning cap today.

The first step to create a blog post or an article, SEO friendly is the Title. The title must be specific to the topic and use the main keywords.

The second step that I did for SEO was to make the posts urls SEO friendly. The default that Wordpress uses gives a url like this ““marketinghobo.com/?p=3” P=3 is not very search engine friendly so I wanted to change that.

I want the actual title of the post to appear in the url. I went into the interface and selected “settings” and then went into the section for permalinks. Added custom feature “ /%postname%/ ” now the actual post name is used instead of P=3, so the Url appears as “marketing hobo.com/post title. This makes the url very SEO friendly.

The final change I made may not seem to be SEO, but it can have an affect on traffic and notifies Search Engines of changes to the blog. There are many services to update different search engines that the blog has updated. Wordpress by default automatically pings. If you go to: Settings, then click on writing and then go to the bottom of page, you will find: Update services. Listed there is one service Ping-o-matic. Now ping-o-matic then pings a number of resources, I have listed them here.

Weblogs.com

Blo.gs

Technorati

Feed Burner

Syndic8

NewsGator

My Yahoo!

PubSub.com

Blogdigger

BlogRolling

BlogStreet

Moreover

Weblogalot

Icerocket

News Is Free

Topic Exchange

Now I admit that’s a good amount of resources and perhaps it’s enough, but there are a number more and these are easily added. I don’t know if this really adds a lot or not, I do know it costs nothing and takes little effort, so why not.

All I needed to do was copy this list and then paste into the update service form. Now every time I add a page or a post all of the resources will be notified of those changes and additions.

For now, that is the extent of my work to make Marketing Hobo Search Engine Optimized or as they say around the net “SEO Friendly”.

My challenge for today was, learning to use FTP Software.

Keep in mind, I have previously taken the lazy route with Niche Marketing and that includes creating websites and blogs. Since day 1 I have used the WYSIWYG site editors or built in website builders. So today for the first time I down loaded FTP Software so that I could load from my computer to my hosting service. I chose to use Filezilla. I chose Filezilla two reasons. First I had heard good things about it and second, perhaps most importantly, it is FREE.

The download was simple and straight forward and I had no problems at all. Ok, now that it is on my computer, I will use the FTP Software for adding items to Marketing Hobo.

Next I decided that I should change the file permissions. A number of the pages in the Theme section need to have the permissions changed to allow changing the layout or adding features.

Using the ftp software I went into the file manager and then opened the appropriate area and changed the permissions. The only problem I ran into was selecting the column I wanted to change so I would not need to do them one at a time. Again, that old lazy streak bit me in the back side. The FTP Software would not allow me to select all the items, so I had to take a few minutes to find a way to select all using keys. Simple really, if you know how, just use control A. Oh so easy now that I know how.

What would you call it? I call it Niche Marketing! Perhaps that is right, perhaps its not exactly right. Confused, well so am I.

This is about my journey, yes I do marketing and yes I market to different niches.

No this Blog is not about selling something to you, in fact I am not that sure what this blog is really about. I do know it will be about my journey, the road that I travel. I plan to share that journey with anyone that wants to follow along. My journey begins right here today:

So why the title Niche Marketing with Attitude? Simple really. I woke up the other day and realized that I had gone far in the world of Niche Marketing, yet I had made many, all too many mistakes along the way. I sat around and contemplated these mistakes for a couple of days and reached a point of frustration and then it happened “Attitude” struck.

Like far too many people that get into Niche Marketing, I wanted it all and I wanted it right now. I wanted it with the least amount of effort and that led me to the point of frustration. So after attitude set in, I took a step back and decided to begin something fresh and new for me. “Taking one step at a time” and enjoying the journey while I put the pieces of the puzzle together. From there, this blog was born.

I will be setting it up slowly because I am no expert at setting up a blog. I plan to share what I learn about setting up my blog as I go and at the same time, sharing my journey through My World of Niche Marketing.

Welcome to my Blog

The Marketing Hobo
